Making the Danish

They use 1 tube of ready-made refrigerator crescent roll dough.  You just open the tube and do not unroll them.  Leave them rolled up and slice them into 8 pieces to create your Danishes.  They slice really easy using a serrated knife.

Then lay the pieces on your baking sheet or a baking stone and press your thumb or fingers in the middle and around the edge creating a well for your filling to go into.  They should be about 2 to 2 1/2 inches across and the edge should be about 1/2 inch high.  Now they’re ready to fill.

The Filling & Fruit

Place the cream cheese in a bowl and add in the sugar and the vanilla.  Mix it well.  Then put about 1 tsp, or about 1/8 of the cream cheese mixture, into the center of each Danish.

Next, comes the jam or preserves.  I made strawberry, blackberry and apricot.  The great thing about this recipe is you can omit the jam if you’d like, or you can make any flavor or several flavors if you’d prefer.  It’s really easy to make different flavors and it takes very little jam.  They would be amazing with a homemade jam!

Now we need to put a small dollop, about 1/2 tsp of the jam or preserves, on top of the cream cheese.  Don’t worry about spreading out the cream cheese mixture or the jam.  They will spread as they bake, and the Danish will puff up beautifully.

Baking

Next put the filled Danishes into the oven to take at the baking temperature and time listed.  Remove when the edges of the Danish are lovely golden brown.

They are ready to serve immediately.  If you’d like, you can dust them with powdered sugar.

Serving

These Fruit & Cream Cheese Danish are something a little sweet and special to serve alongside an egg bake or Skillet Eggs for a breakfast or brunch.  I like them with a cup of coffee in the morning.

The cream cheese mixture can be made a day or two in advanced and stored in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it.

I hope you enjoy them!

Happy Baking!

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 4 oz Cream Cheese
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
  • ½ tsp Vanilla
  • 1 tube Refrigerator Crescent Rolls
  • 6 tsp Jam or Preserves

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  • In a small bowl mix together the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla. Set aside.
  • Open the tube of refrigerator crescent rolls. Do not unroll or separate them. Slice the roll of crescent rolls in 8 pieces to be your Danishs.
  • Place each Danish on a baking sheet. In the center of each Danish press a well in the center with a rim around the edge. You will want them to be about 2 to 2½ in size with a rim that is about ½ inch high.
  • Place about 1 tsp or ⅙ of cream cheese mixture into the center of the Danish. On top of the cream cheese put about ½ - ¾ tsp of jam. Don't worry about spreading the cream cheese or jam. They will spread as they bake. The Danish will puff up around the filling.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes on an ungreased baking sheet or stone. Remove from the oven.
  • Serve immediately. You can dust them with powdered sugar prior to serving. Refrigerate any remaining Danishes.
