Grilled Parmesan Asparagus is a super delicious way to prepare asparagus. It’s an easy recipe that can be prepared outside on the grill. When the warm summer weather arrives, we like to grill full meals outside rather than cook in the house. It helps keep our home cooler and there is just something about sitting outside with a cold drink grilling. Even if it’s a weeknight it makes it feel more chill and relaxing.
Ingredients
The main ingredient is fresh asparagus. I trim the raw bottom ends off and I will cut off the really hard bottoms. If they are a little tough, I’ll leave them on and using a peeler to peel about 2 inches off the bottoms of each stalk. It’s the outside that can be woody while the inside will be very tender. The very light-colored pieces in the photo are the peeled ends. Imaging if I just cut and tossed those pieces rather than peel them so we could eat them.
You can grill the asparagus as full spears or cut them into bite sized pieces. We tend to prefer them cut into bite sized pieces. Simply because it is easier to grill and eat in the cute pieces. I think the full spears are a much pretty presentation for the asparagus. So, if you’re going to grill for guests, you might want the full spears.
The other ingredients are olive oil, salt & pepper, minced garlic, balsamic vinegar, and parmesan cheese. Balsami vinegar is little bit of a unique ingredient. You’ll add just enough to brighten the flavor without it tasting like vinegar.
Preparing & Grilling
I prepare a foil pan by folding two sheets of aluminum foil. If you have a foil pan you can use that.
Put olive oil in the foil pan and add the asparagus. Salt and pepper them to taste. Grill them, stirring them occasionally until they are almost fork tender. Then add in the minced garlic. It gets added later to prevent it from getting overcooked and developing a bitter flavor. It’ll have a better garlic flavor this way.
Once the asparagus is fork tender add the balsamic vinegar, toss, and atop with the parmesan cheese. Now it is ready to serve!
Serving
I would suggest serving Grilled Parmesan Asparagus with something else you are making on the grill such as a Grilled Teriyaki Pork Chop, Grilled Honey Glazed Chicken Sandwich, or Teriyaki Chicken Kabobs. If you want an additional side dish Caramel Apple Cheesecake Salad or Red, White and Blueberry Fluff would go great!
Happy Grilling!
