Creamy Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Creamy Garlic Mashed Potatoes is a recipe that is very quick, simple, and yet very flavorful. It can be made in as little as 15 minutes. It is a comfort food that is a great compliment to any meat dish, and it is perfect for weeknight meals or for special occasions.
The Ingredients
This recipe is very simple with only 4 ingredients, potatoes, milk, butter, and seasoning. This helps it come together very quickly which is what we all want and need on busy weeknights.
I use Yukon Gold potatoes. This is what makes my potatoes have a slight yellow color to the flesh. White russets will work great too.
For the seasoning I have an All-purpose seasoning blend that I keep on hand at all times. It saves time when preparing meals and it reduces some of the dishes, at least a little bit.
The milk and butter help give it that dairy goodness that is so delicious in mashed potatoes.
If you want to reduce the calories and fat, you can substitute chicken stock or potato water for the milk and use margarine or fat free sour cream in place of the butter.
Boiled Mashed Potatoes vs. a Potato Rice to Mash the Potatoes
There are a couple of different ways to mash the potatoes. The traditional boiling method is to peel the raw potatoes and boil until the potatoes are soft. Then you use either a masher by hand to smash the potatoes or use a mixer to mash the potatoes.
If you use a potato ricer the potatoes are cooked (baked or microwaved) with the skins on, sliced, and pressed through the potato ricer to remove the skins and mash the potatoes. It can be made in 15-20 minutes. Cooking them in the microwave takes 8 minutes, I add the ingredients, microwave another 2 minutes with everything in them and they’re ready to serve. For more details on this method please go to this link on How to Make Mashed Potatoes without Peeling a Single Potato.
There is no right or wrong way to make the mashed potatoes. The end result will taste the same. Just use whichever works best for you.
Reduce Calories and Fat
If you want to reduce the calories and fat, you can substitute chicken stock or potato water for the milk and use margarine or fat free sour cream in place of the butter.
Hopefully these Creamy garlic mashed potatoes will become a weeknight regular in your home like they are in my home.
Happy Cooking!
