Apple Cinnamon Rolls

Apple Cinnamon Rolls

Apple Cinnamon Rolls are a wonderful combination of a homemade apple pie filling and refrigerator cinnamon rolls.  They are quick and easy to make, and they make your home smell heavenly!

Ingredients & Assembly

To make these you will start out with a can of refrigerator cinnamon rolls.  Separate them and place them in a round cake pan.  Create a well in the center of each cinnamon roll by pressing your thumb in the center and create a side with your fingers.  It’s a lot like grade school art class when you’re making a clay pot.

To make the apple pie filing you peel core and finely dice an apple.  I refer to use a Granny Smith apple since I like how the flavor profile they have when they are cooked up.  Put the apple pieces in a small saucepan on low heat and add butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.  It may see a little bit dry, but soon the apples will release their juices and the butter will melt and it’ll be moist.

Put the milk in a small bowl and add the corn starch.  Whisk together.  You need to do this in a separate bowl and not directly in the pan to avoid lumps.  When corn starch is added to a hot liquid or mixture it will clump.  This will be your thickener for the apples.

Once the apples are cooked to the desired tenderness, add in the milk and corn starch mixture.  Stir continuously until it has thickened.  Then remove the small saucepan of apples from the heat.

Using a tablespoon put some apple pie filling in each cinnamon roll center.  I use a small cookie scoop and that is the perfect size.  Just be careful not to over fill them so the liquid runs over the side.  You may have some extra apple filling.  That can happen because the size of the apples can vary.  I’m sure you can find someone that might be willing to eat it.

Baking

Put the pan of Apple Cinnamon Rolls in a preheated oven and bake according to the recipe directions.  Once they are golden brown and done, remove them from the oven, and let them cool for about 10-15 minutes.

Take the container of the frosting that came with the refrigerator cinnamon rolls, remove the lid, and put it in the microwave to soften it a little bit.  Stir it and then drizzle the icing over each apple cinnamon roll.

Serving

These Apple Cinnamon Rolls and a cup of coffee are a perfect combination, but I know not everyone is as in love with coffee as I do.

These would work wonderful with an egg bake or Skillet Eggs.  These are great when you are serving a brunch and want to have something that is a little sweet too.

Happy Baking!
