The Best Poppy Seed Dressing

The Best Poppy Seed Dressing

This is the Best Poppy Seed Dressing.  Why buy dressings when it’s this easy to make and it tastes so delicious on a salad?  I never realized how easy it is to mix up your own salad dressing.  It is very budget friendly too.  It is so much healthy when you know what all is going into your salad.

I created this Poppy Seed Dressing because I wanted one that was more stable.  Meaning it has no milk in it so it would keep longer.  I also wanted one with ingredients that are in most kitchens.  Only the poppy seeds are special.  I get picky out ingredients that are not ones I normally keep in my kitchen.  I like using ingredients that are in most kitchens.

Ingredients

The recipe calls for Canola oil, however, you could use vegetable oil.  I would not recommend olive oil.  Olive oil can set up when it is in the fridge.

The other ingredients are vinegar, mustard, poppy seeds, sugar and mayonnaise.   This gives it a little tanginess from the vinegar and mustard, slight sweetness from the sugar, and a bit creaminess from the mayonnaise.

Mixing

All the ingredients are placed into a bowl and whisked together the ingredients, or you can use an emulsion blender to whip the ingredients together.

Serving

The Best Poppy Seed Dressing is a great dressing to put on a regular lettuce salad with your choice of toppings or it is one of our favorites on Strawberry Pecan Salad.

I have a standard “formula” for a salad that I like to use, and this dressing works perfectly with my salad formula.

  1. 2 cups Greens of choice (Spring mix, iceberg lettuce, romaine, baby spinach)
  2. Fruit (4 Strawberries, 1/8 cup blueberries, 1/4 of an apple, 1/8 cup mandarin oranges, 1/2 of a pear)
  3. 1 tbsp Nuts (chopped pecans, sliced or slivered almonds, chopped walnuts)
  4. 1 tbsp Cheese (shredded Parmesan, Asiago, Romano, Cheddar, Colby Jack, feta crumbles)
  5. 4-6 oz of Protein to make it a meal (grilled chicken, fish, salmon)

The Best Poppy Seed Dressing stores well and it keeps for 2 weeks.  It will separate when it is stored in the fridge.  I will need to be shaken prior to serving to mix the vinegar and oil together with the poppy seeds.

Happy Cooking!
