What are my top 5 favorite kitchen gadgets? Google defines gadgets as being small mechanical devices or a tool. These would be kitchen gadgets, tools, that I feel have made a positive impact to my kitchen time and food preparation. It’s not just a gadget that is fun to use. It has served a beneficial purpose for me.
Disclaimer: I selected links to the gadgets that are close to the ones I have. I have had some of these gadgets for many years and the exact one has been upgrade or is no longer available. So, I provided links to ones that are very close to mine and ones I would buy if I needed to replace mine.
Potato Ricer
I love my Potatoe ricer. That is the one gadget that I thought of first. We are a potato eating family and a potato ricer really reduces the time making mashed potatoes and they are perfectly finely mashed every time. I can make homemade mashed potatoes for a crowd quickly with a potato ricer. Often times I will microwave the potatoes, slice them, then press through the ricer. It only takes a couple minutes to press them through the ricer. The best part, I didn’t spend any time peeling potatoes. It is dishwasher safe too.
Here is a post on how to make mashed potatoes without peeling a single potato. All of my mashed potato recipes were made using a potato ricer.
Olive Oil Sprayer
I have an Olive Oil sprayer that I keep on my kitchen counter. It is perfect for spritzing on top of foods when baking or air frying to get look and taste on the top. It has helped replace my deep fryer. That makes it a healthy gadget too, right?
When I’m going to roast vegetables in the oven, I’ll heat up olive oil on my baking sheet, add the vegetables, and give the top of them a spritz of olive oil. Very convenient.
I used an Olive Oil Spray on Oven Roasted Potatoes and Carrots and on Oven Roasted Sausage and Potatoes. It’s great for making Crispy Fish in the oven or in the air fryer.
Silicone Mat
I like making pie crusts or rolling out cookies on a silicone mate. It’s a gadget that I only use several times a year, but I think it really helps with clean up and helps contain the mess to the mat. I can gently take it to my sink to wash it off, roll it up, and put it away.
In this post about Homemade Pie Crust Tips and a Recipe you can see the silicone mat in use while I made pie crust. It really does help container the mess from the flour.
Medium Cookie Scoop
I use the medium cookie scoop for all of my cookies, but I use it for so much more. It’s a great for putting cupcake batter into cupcake tins. How about to measure and make meatballs? I scoop the meat and roll it into balls. Sometimes I leave them with a flat side. They can be made really quickly this way.
I use a medium cookie scoop for all the cookies I made. These Chocolate Chip Cookies are a drop cookie and using the cookie scoop they bake out to the perfect thickness to be slightly crisp on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside.
Kitchen Shears
I went many years without a kitchen shears until someone gave me one as a gift. My first one has worn out and been replaced. I don’t cut through bones with it, but I will cube chicken, beef, or pork. If I buy a cheaper cut of meat that has gristle in it, I can cut that out.
It’s great for preparing vegetables too. I use it on softer vegetables such as green onions, fresh green beans, fresh peas, asparagus, and fresh herbs. I grow green beans in my garden. It’s a big-time saver when cleaning a large amount of fresh green beans.
They are perfect cubing a cheaper cut of steak to make Marinaded Steak Cubes. As I am cutting the meat I can easily remove any unwanted raw meet.
I do not put my kitchen shears in the dishwasher. The first one I had the bolt that holds the two halves together rusted out and broke. The second one, I hand wash only and as a result, it has lasted a long time and has been working great.
That was difficult to limit it to my top 5 favorite kitchen gadgets. I would have like to list more. I hope you find my reviews of these items helpful.
Happy cooking and baking!
